Rev. Bro. Patrick was a member of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, Province of Yercaud, South India. He was active in the field of disability rehabilitation and Integrated Community Development Programme for about twenty-five years. He headed the St. Louis Institute for the Deaf and the Blind, Adyar Chennai for 11 years. He upgraded the visually impaired and the hearing impaired High School Sections into Higher Secondary and later established a college exclusively for the hearing impaired, affiliated to the University of Madras. This is the first of its kind in the whole of Asia.
During his tenure in St. Louis Institute for the Blind and Deaf he came into close contact with persons with disabilities. Even as the Head of the Institute, he started a unit for the mentally challenged. Immediately after his tenure in St. Louis Institute, he ventured into Community Rehabilitation Programme.
Prior to taking up assignment at St. Louis Institute, Bro. Patrick was closely associated with Montfort Hr. Sec. School, Yercaud, Salem District and RSK Hr. Sec School, BHEL, Trichy District as well as St. Joseph’s Hr. Sec School, Chengalpattu. His Commitment and passion for promoting sports and games has benefitted generations of youth, particularly by way of Physical fitness and character formation. MCDS under his leadership since 1996 has grown to be one of the largest Integrated Community Development Programmes in India.
Rev. Bro. Joseph Louis had a long stint at Montfort School, Yercaud, lasting about fifteen years, the last five years as Principal of this prestigious Institution. He was also the Principal of RSK Higher Secondary School, Trichy. His contact with the alumni of these Schools prompted the Provincial Administration of the Province of Yercaud to appoint him as the Director of MCDS to succeed Rev. Bro. Patrick on his demise on 7th April 2015. He too had a stint of five years, spread between two years at St. Louis Institute Chennai and School for the Hearing impaired at Belagola, Mysore. He is ably supported by Rev. Bro. Mathew Kuplicat, with on hand experience behind him with Social work and Child labour Programme (NCLP) as the national level coordinator.
